Mum's Cottage Pie

Ingredients

  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 mug frozen peas
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 400ml beef stock
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 900g potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • Splash of milk
  • Knob of butter
  • Grated cheese, optional

Method

  1. Boil the potatoes until soft, then mash with milk and butter.
  2. Brown the mince with the onion and carrots in a large pan.
  3. Stir in tomato puree, stock, Worcestershire sauce and peas, then simmer until thickened.
  4. Spoon into a baking dish and top with mash. Add cheese if using.
  5. Bake at 200°C for 20 minutes until golden and bubbling.
